The Blessing of Joyfully Surrendering to God
As Christian moms, we are called to a life of joyfully surrendering to God. This may look different for each of us. When we surrender completely to Christ, we are choosing to put His will above our own. We are saying, “God, I trust that You know what is best for me and my family. I surrender my plans and my dreams to You. Lead and guide me according to Your will.”

This is not always an easy thing to do. In fact, most moms would agree it is often very difficult. But it is always worth it. When we make the choice to joyfully surrender to the Lord, we can be confident that He will lead us and guide us in the way that is best for us. We don't have to worry or stress about the future because we know that God has a plan for us.
Sometimes when we surrender to God, it often means walking through some of the hardest times of our lives. But even in the midst of difficulty, we can know that God is with us and He will never leave us or forsake us.
What does it mean to joyfully surrender to God?
When we surrender joyfully to God, we are saying yes to His plan for our lives, even when we don't understand it. We are trusting that He knows what is best for us even when the circumstances around us look bleak. We are choosing to follow Him even when it would be easier to go our own way.
I'm reminded of the story of Job.
Job was a man of unswerving faith. In the midst of pain, suffering, and loss, he continued to do what was hard - he trusted in God and refused to curse Him or renounce his faith. Job's example shows us that it is always worth it to trust in God, even when things are tough. His testimony is an inspiration to us all and a reminder that we can overcome anything if we have faith in God. May we all have the faith of Job.
"And Job went on to say, 'For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth.'" - Job 19:25
Other Examples of Surrender in the Bible
The Faith of Jochebed
Jochebed the mother of Moses had faith that God would take care of her son. Moses grew up in a time when the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians. The Pharaoh had ordered newborn Israelite boys to be killed, but Moses was spared because Jochebed had placed him in a basket and sent him down the river.
Because Jochebed had faith in God, she was able to raise a son who changed the course of history. She will always be remembered as the mother of Moses, one of God's greatest champions.
Abraham's Faith and Obedience
God had asked Abraham to sacrifice his own son Isaac on the altar. Abraham trusted that even if he had to sacrifice his own son, God would still be with them. And he was right - God provided a ram for Abraham to sacrifice instead. This story is a reminder that even when we are asked to do difficult things, we can trust that God will be with us and provide for us.
The Disciples Follow God
When Jesus called His disciples to follow Him, they left everything behind and followed Him. They knew that in surrendering everything to Him, they would gain a transformed life. For weary moms, this is an invitation to do the same. In giving ourselves completely to Jesus, we will find rest for our souls and strength for our journey. He desires to lead us on a path of transformation and renewal. So let's let go of our burdens and allow Him to guide us. Surrender to Him today and experience the hope and peace that only He can provide.
Bible Verses on Surrendering to God
There are many Bible verses that remind us to surrender to God. When we surrender, we are essentially trusting God with the outcome of our lives. This can be difficult to do, especially when things are not going the way we want them to. The devil often tempts us to take matters into our own hands and complain, but we must resist these temptations and surrender to God instead.
What does the Bible say about surrendering to God?
Reading Bible verses on surrender can help us to remember that God is in control and that His will is always best for us. Here are just a few of the most popular Bible verses on surrender:
"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." - James 4:7-8
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" - Psalms 46:10
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints." - Ephesians 6:10-18
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." - Matthew 7:7
"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." - 2 Peter 3:9
"So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." - Luke 14:33
"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me." - Matthew 10:37
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." - Matthew 22:37
These verses remind us that God is our refuge and strength, He will never leave us or forsake us, and He is always in control. If we surrender our lives to Him, He will work everything out for our good according to His perfect will.
Why is it important for moms to joyfully surrender to God?
Surrendering to God is one of the most beautiful things we can do daily as mothers. It means giving up our own plans and agendas, and trusting that God has something even better in store for us and our families. It's an intentional decision to let go of control and allow God to lead the way in every moment of every day.
We can either surrender in exhaustion at the end of the day when we’ve reached the end of our rope, or we can surrender joyfully at the beginning of every day, knowing God has the best plans in mind for us. When we make the choice to surrender joyfully and prayerfully, it opens the door for God to bless us in ways we never could have imagined. We are no longer bound by our own limitations, but instead are free to follow God's perfect will for our motherhood journey.
This doesn't mean that everything will be easy and perfect from that point on, or that problems will cease to exist, but it does mean that we can trust that God is leading us down the right path — His path — for us.
So if you're feeling unsure or overwhelmed about today, the week ahead, or even the month ahead, take some time to pray and ask God for guidance. Surrender in prayer, knowing that He has great plans in store for you. He longs for you to share your worries, cares, and problems with Him.
Surrendering to God's will in the throes of motherhood
It can be so hard to keep going when you're feeling exhausted and burnt out. But don't lose heart! God is with you, and He will help you through your challenging motherhood moments. God will strengthen you when you lack sleep from taking care of sick children for three days, when potty training is not going as well as you'd hoped, and when you're up for the second night in a row with a teething baby.
Be sure to take some time for yourself, even if it's just five or ten minutes a day. Get outside and take a walk, read the Bible, or take a hot bath. And don't forget to do the most important thing — pray. Talk to God about your struggles and ask Him for strength. He will listen and help you get through this difficult season.
When we surrender to the will of God it opens the door for opportunities to grow. We can let go of our fears and doubts and allow God to work in our lives. He has a plan for us, and when we submit to Him, amazing things can happen.
God wants us to be happy and fulfilled in our motherhood journey. He knows what's best for us, and when we surrender to Him, we can trust that His plan is good. He will guide us and give us the strength we need to face whatever challenges come our way. So if you're feeling lost or stuck right now, I encourage you to surrender to God's will. It may be hard at first, but it's worth it in the end. He has great things in store for you!
How can I surrender my life to God?
The first step in joyful surrendering your life (and your family's life)to God is simply making the decision to do so. It's a heart decision - one that you make with your whole heart and not just your head. Once you have made that decision, joyfully surrendered living will become a lifestyle - something that you live out every day by choosing His will over your own. It won't always be easy but it will always be worth it!
In order to joyful surrender to this role, we need to first let go of our own selfish desires and plans. We need to be willing to put our children's needs above our own. And while this can be difficult at times, it is so worth it when we see our children thriving because of the sacrifices we've made. When we are able to view motherhood through this lens, we are able to see it as the blessing that it truly is.
Surrender your worries to God and you will find strength.
Are you ready to start living a life of joyfully surrendered living? If so, take a moment right now (even if you're in the middle of laundry or dishes or driving to get groceries) and simply say, "God, I choose today (and every day) to follow You wholeheartedly. I joyfully surrender my plans and my dreams over into Your hands because I know that You have a good plan for me." And then mean it! Choose daily (sometimes hourly) to follow Him no matter what - even when it's hard - and watch as He works in your life in ways you could never have imagined possible!
A Prayer of Surrender to God
Dear God, we come to you today asking for help with surrendering. It's hard for us to let go and give up control, but we know that's the only way to experience the joy and peace You have for us. Please help us to trust You more, even when we're feeling scared or uncertain. Give us the strength to keep surrendering to You, even when it's hard. We know that as we do this, You will bless us in ways we never could have imagined. Amen.
